burn changed green polyester to purple

Name: Jill

Message: I have a coat that I have burnt which is made of polyester and has changed from green to a purple colour. The fabric is not damaged but I need a dye to change the colour as it is made of polyester.

If the fabric was burned severely enough to change its color, it is impossible that the fiber was not damaged at all. I would be very hesitant, if it were mine, to spend time and money on dyeing a badly damaged garment. It is very possible that it will fall apart.

However, if you are sure that you want to dye it, please see Dyeing Polyester with Disperse Dyes. Disperse dyes are the only type of dye that will work on polyester; all-purpose dyes will not.

(Please help support this web site. Thank you.)
