Is there a technique to make a heart tie dye?

Yes, dyeing a heart is relatively simple, though succeeding in it may take two or three tries, for a beginner.

You can figure this out for yourself with the excellent instructions that are available for free: see online instructions for the heart tie-up from Fiber-arts.com this blog's entry for May 2, 2006.

If the instructions are not clear enough for you, or if you need additional help or wish to see other tie-ups, as well, I strongly recommend purchasing the DVD "Advanced Tie Dye Techniques" by True Tie Dye.
