Teaching adults dyeing with MX

Hi - I have been dyeing seriously for several years, less so going back to 1996. I taught one class to a group from my quilt guild four years ago, and learned a lot from that! (What not to do.) Now I'm doing some one-on-one teaching and will be teaching something at a quilt retreat in three months. I'm considering teaching dyeing at the retreat, because there are no facilities at the quilt shop where I teach sewing-related classes.
Thoughts I'm contemplating:

  • teach people who've tried dyeing before rather than newbies?
  • facilities - different than at the home studio
  • pricing the class
  • build a kit of tools, fabric
  • discussing weighing vs volume for dye stocks
  • teaching quilters - thoughts

I saw Pro Chem offers a discount for teachers advertising their classes, so I plan to take advantage of that.
Thanks for your thoughts and imput.

Random workshop thoughts

If you have enough people to offer two workshops, maybe you could do something basic for beginners and another for those who are already somewhat familiar with it, like Dyeing 101 and Dyeing 201.

You could choose from a more informational content, like what fabrics work and what chemicals are needed and how dyes differ and spread and interact, or more with just applying at first and get to the "why" later.

Will this be a one-session workshop, an all-day, or spread over a couple days? That will affect how much you can cover.

Facilites: It seems to me that as long as you have easy-to-clean tables/counters and floors, decent laundry facilities available and enough room to batch anything you dye, you're probably good to go, and the laundry really can be optional in a pinch. :-)

Just a couple random thoughts to get you started thinking.
