testing picture upload

I'm testing to see whether a new (to this forum) feature that allows files to be attached will work. When you make a post, you will see an option to attach a file at the bottom. It seems to be very easy to use.

Warning: You must remember to click on the "attach" button before you submit your post!

To see the attachment for any post, you must click on the title line of the post, or on "read more...." link below if there is one; it's not showing up on the main page here.

(My test picture is off-topic, just a picture from my garden.)

how to insert your attached picture into a post

After attaching a file, you can insert the picture into a post, as long as you don't delete the upload. To do this, there are two steps. First find out the URL of the file you uploaded by holding by viewing your post and using your right mouse button to click on the link, so that you can choose "copy link" from the menu that appears then. (If you are using a one-button mouse, hold down the control key on your keyboard while clicking on the link.)

Once you've copied the address for the picture (the one that starts with http and ends with jpg), you can insert the picture into a post (possibly the same post) by placing
      <img src="
before the filename and
      ">
after it. For example, given the URL for my test picture, which is
      http://www.pburch.net/drupal/files/cilantro..jpg
I can turn it into an image by typing in
      <img src="http://www.pburch.net/drupal/files/cilantro..jpg">
And it works!

attached files show up only if you are logged in!

It turns out that the files attached to posts, such as pictures, show only if you are logged i! If you are not logged in on this site, you do not see that there's an attached file.

If you attach a file to your post, I'll be glad to edit afterwards so that the file shows within your post. Those pictures show even for people who are not logged in.

At any given time, the people using this site who are not logged in exceed the ones who are logged in by a factor or ten or fifteen. This makes sense because the only reason you need to be logged in are in order to post a new message, or, now, to see attached files. The text of every post is visible to you whether you log in or not.
