newbie needs to use bleach discharge-fast!

Hi, I'm new to fabric dying although I have use procion dyes with kids in the past. I have used fabric paints a lot.

My church has an upcoming holiday fair. They want me to use a discharge method on black 100% cotton. I think they want fairly precise discharge lines such as in text.

Can I use 1" letter stencils and get reasonably legible text on black? I know there is no knowing the final discharge color. I'm ok with that.

How precise is the bleach method? Is there another tool which I can use to make small lines and swirls look good? I have thought about the clorox pen. That may be too precise. Yes? No?

HELP!

bleach discharge lines and letters

I hope all of your black shirts do discharge with bleach. A few won't lose any color at all. If that happens, Jacquard Discharge paste may or may not work (wash bleached items before using discharge paste). If neither of these works, use opaque or metallic fabric paint.

The two thickened bleach products I know are the Clorox bleach pen, and any automatic dishwasher gel detergent that contains bleach. Both are very handy, especially if you're in a hurry, since you can buy them locally. Unthickened bleach is likely to crawl beyond the desired margins when painted on. To make your own, buy Monagum bleach thickener from ProChem, or Bleach Thickner from Dharma. You can use unthickened diluted bleach in a spray bottle to spray over stencils, but be sure to go outside to do this, and wear a good respirator with acid gas cartridges, since it's a bad idea to breathe more than a trace of bleach.

Here we use also metal tips designed for gutta application.

If you use thin ones, you even don't have to thicken it.
But test it first!

If you're not sure about color after discharge, use cotton swab dipped in bleach and make small mark on hidden side of the shirt (e.g. bottom hem)
