teaching middle school class tie dye

in a few weeks i will be teaching a class at my old middle school how to tie dye! im really excited and i hear the kids are too. im asking for any advice on my upcoming venture.
i will have 2 days and 45 minute periods with 24 students. im doing all the dye mixing and prep work outside of class time, and im thinking day 1 we can talk about colors, folding, and i want to let the kids design on a sheet of paper how theyd like their projects to look to get an idea of how things unfold. i will show them the spiral and heart folds.
day 2 will start with prepped materials, being the pieces they have brought in. they can fold a design i showed them or do whatever they want and then got to the dye stations in 2 waves. then i will wash out their stuff so they can get it the next day.
this sounds feasible to me, but im no teacher. how can i make this a fun and creative experience for these kids so they can show off their work? thanks for any tips!

teaching tie-dye

I think you are definitely on the right track! Question: will you have a TA to assist? I'm co-teaching a class this summer to quilters, and we only plan to have 12 students and 6 hours to go over a number of fold and dye techniques. I think you are wise to stick to just two, and the pre-mix of the dyes is also very smart... we are doing the same thing. Will they be using squeeze bottles to apply the dyes? And how will the pieces be identified when you have washed them out?
Have fun, and I hope you post pictures!

i will have the art teacher

i will have the art teacher there, and she will be helping. i will supply the squeeze bottles and as far as identifying the items, i was thinking about taking a pic of the item and name. i will post some pics afterwards, thanks!
