castaway stamp pads

Has anybody tried the Jacquard Castaway stamp pads to discharge fabric dyes? Dharma has just started carrying them, and they say they work well to discharge Procion MX dyes on fabric.

(See the reductive discharge columns on my discharging Procion MX dyes chart to get a preview of which colors might work best.)

wish me luck with castaway

I'm going to be doing a few Castaway tests soon because I need to make a silk veil with astrological symbols on the border. I'm hoping that I'll have enough contrast that they are at least visible... fingers crossed.

castaway

I'm looking forward to seeing how the Castaway discharge works for you. It seems like it would be a nice way to do discharge on silk.

Discharge stamping

I'm game... I have used dishwashing gel with bleach to stamp/discharge, but this sounds interesting. Dharma has the stamp pad, but is currently out of re-inker, so it may be awhile, but for the amount they are asking, it's worth a try! I'll keep you posted.

actually....

... I have. I'd read about this years ago, and never did get it to work. I'd be VERY interested in hearing if anyone has gotten it to work since, and what their process was! I've been playing with discharge this week and have yet to achieve the desired results for the effect I want to achieve!

Discharging

Hi, Judi. What methods are you trying in your discharging? And what effects are you trying for? I have had some success in the past, but it depends on whether I'm trying bleach/water, dishwashing gel with bleach, or discharge paste. I'm always interested in hearing about methods used by others, so maybe we can get a discussion going here!

what dyes for discharge

Judi, just to amplify Judy's questions, have you been trying to discharge Procion MX dyes or other dyes you've applied yourself, or have you been trying to discharge commercially dyed fabric? Some dyes, and non-dye pigments in general I think, cannot be discharged at all, especially the sulfur dyes which are very cheap and therefore popular among manufacturers for dark or drab-colored cottons.
