Squeeze bottle leakage...?

so - I have been noticing over the years (but never really did anything about it) that the bigger squeeze bottles tend to leak from the sides when Im applying the dye. the reason I'm finally asking about it is because I ran a Tie-Dye night for staff at a camp and I noticed that this was a complaint from a bunch of different people...does this happen to anyone else? How can I remedy this situation?

thanks!

Leaky sqeeze bottle threads

Alot of times the threads of the bottle or the threads inside the cap will have some undissolved particle or dirt spec there and that will cause it to leak from the rim. Rinse the inside of the cap in water before putting it back on the bottle and make sure there is no speck on the bottle threads either. This may work for you, unless you don't have good bottles. Dharma or hair dresser supply, think dharma cost less for that.
Good luck.

Squeeze bottles

I've had my squeeze bottles for a long time... got them at Dharma Trading. The only leakage I have had is from the top, and I have been able to resolve that by applying some plumbers thread tape to the threads of the neck before putting the top on. Some of these bottles are at least 10 years old, and I have never had side leaks.

top leakage, narrow-neck squeeze bottles...

I am taping the threads of these leaky bottle cap/necks with one thickness of black electrician's tape which I salvage from the jars of dye I get from Dharma. My dyestation has lengths of it hanging, waiting to be trimmed to the bottle neck. It seems to do the job just fine. While I am at it, I should mention that I use the nylon pint-sized oil 'cans' available in the automotive section of most department stores as well as the eight and sixteen oz. Dharma bottles. The oilcans have a long, narrow spout and are ideal for reaching into smaller spaces, and they have not yet started to drip. And on the topic of newspaper, I like to use it to absorb excess dye solution as the peices cure in the microwave. I use the newsprint sized for charcoal sketching... big sheets cut in half.

Good question, I'll be looking

Good question, I'll be looking to see if there's a good answer. I'm wondering where to get the best squeeze squirt bottles that don't leak. Ketchup bottles? Beauty supplies? Dye suppliers?

Gaskettes to the rescue

You might try going to your local home center store, bring your squeeze bottle tops and get a flat soft gaskette to fit inside the top. When you screw on the top the rim of the bottle with form a tighter seal to the gaskette and stop the leak just like a garden hose.
