On her website, Shanna Swendson describes this book as "Bridget Jones meets Harry Potter". The feeling is quite a lot like the 'chick lit' books, but is blessedly free of their toxic aspects. The heroine does not obsess over weight loss nor about how all her problems would be solved by the right man. As a result, this light novel beats everything I've happened to read from the genre of chick lit, while sharing much of their appeal.
