Alexander McCoy

Alexander McCoy was my great-great-great-great-great grandfather, born approx. 1837 in Ulster, Ireland. He married Margaret Dixon, 1758, Whiteland Twp, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

A quote from Ross D. Johnson, at http://web.archive.org/web/20071113171030/http://www.gbnf.com/genealog2/rjohnson/html/d0032/I1994.HTM:

Alexander McCay (1737-1817?) was born in Tolledon, Donegh, County Monaghan, Ulster, Ireland. He was the son of John McCay. By the time he emigrated to American in 1755, he had changed his name to McCoy.

Alexander had an independent household in 1765. An Alexander McCoy signed a petition in East Hanover Township, Lancaster Count, PA in 1769. The name next to his on the petition was James Dixon believed to be his father-in-law or maybe wife's uncle.

Alexander McCoy was a veteran of the Revolution. He was elected Captain of the 1st Company, 5th Battalion of Cumberland Militia and served through two 60 day tours of active duty in 1777 and 1778. He died about 1812, Georgetown, Scott, Kentucky.
